KUCHING: A disadvantaged family of five at a squatter area at Jalan Selangan Batu is appealing for financial assistance from members of the public.
The family ran into serious financial trouble two years ago when Hii Kin Lan’s husband Voon Yan Chin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Due to his debilitating condition, labourer and sole breadwinner Voon had to stop working.
There was not enough money for their children’s education.
Things became worst when Hii herself was diagnosed with high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes.
Hii broke into tears when speaking to the press at Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pending branch yesterday.
“I have four children aged 17, 10, nine and seven and they are all still schooling. I myself have to go up and down to the hospital to get treated for my diabetes,” she said.
Assisted by the branch, the family now receive an emergency relief allowance of RM400 from the Social Welfare Department.
According to Hii, her husband’s cancer is at the advanced stage and he has been admitted in hospital.
To help, the public are advised to contact Hii at 016-8961567 or SUPP Pending Branch at 082-331776 or 082-332 667.
