Another conspiracy by Karim & co?

by

KUCHING: Many were taken by surprised with the Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah's friendly reminder to Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP).

What was (or were) his hidden message(s)?

Why can't he just call up the SUPP Youth Chief Sih Hua Thong who is also the Political Secretary to the Chief Minister or any party leaders to express his anxiety without trying to show it the whole world.

Was he trying to impress the top leadership in PBB?

Or was he trying to instigate the SUPP members to revolt against the party leadership for the sake of the party's survival?

If this was the case, then who had asked him to give the friendly reminder that could hurt the feeling of many party members because he was seen as trying to interfere with the internal affair of a component party of the state Barisan Nasional.

What is his position in the state Barisan Nasional that justify his action in giving the insulting statement - as the Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister?

Was he trying to imply that he receive an instruction from the State BN Chairman Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to give the friendly reminder?

But why the State BN Chairman Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud needed him to do?

This is because as the State BN Chairman Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has every right to remind any component party of BN to buck up.

But certainly not YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah despite of the fact that he is the Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Who were in SUPP are working together with YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to ignite dissatisfaction among the party members towards the party leadership?

It would be interesting to know to what extent that YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his ambitious friends in SUPP have managed to make the party members angry with the party top leadership.

And lastly, is YB Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah trying to put his men as SUPP candidates in the next state election as what he is doing in PBB now?

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party is smarting from the remark that it is in danger of becoming “a mosquito party”.

Although the party is no stranger to such comments, especially coming from its critics and opponents in the past few years, this latest barb is especially stinging because it comes from Asajaya state assemblyman Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah of PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu).

Although Abdul Karim couched his statement as a “friendly reminder” to the fellow BN component party to buck up, SUPP Youth Central Secretariat responded yesterday with a press statement, rejecting the criticism as “untrue and unfair”.

SUPP Youth chairman Sih Hua Tong (pic) pointed out that even though the party lost eight state seats during the last state election in 2006, the party had not been lazy but, in fact, had been working harder than ever, especially in providing services to the voters.

Abdul Karim, who is also chief political secretary to the Chief Minister, had said that if SUPP did not handle its internal problems properly, was unable to deliver services properly and repeatedly rejected by the voters, no one would be surprised if it eventually become a mosquito party.

“We hope that other BN component party should seriously study the reasons of those who are not supporting BN,” Sih said. “We should admit that there are various issues to overcome.

The issues are broad and tough for SUPP at this moment.” Urging members of other BN component parties to “know the feeling of SUPP candidates who were defeated under the banner of Barisan Nasional”, Sih added that “the problems faced by SUPP is far beyond their imagination”.

“Other BN component should understand the situation of SUPP and the problems it faces in its state constituencies.

In addition, he also pointed out that “there would be internal problem in any political party”, and SUPP has its own problem-solving approach.

Of course, Sih hastens to add, he is thankful for the friendly reminder from Abdul Karim and other BN component party.

He stressed that his party has been very clear about who their real enemy is and, acting on the basis of “to point the gun outwards”, other BN component parties should help SUPP, especially in policy implementation, rather than issuing negative or harmful speeches that could damage the unity of Barisan National and create opportunities for the opposition to attack.

However, Sih said Abdul Karim had indeed pointed out a political reality in that a political party’s position is determined by the number of elected representatives it has.

A political party without elected people’s representative is unable to pursue or demand anything for its supporters.

With that, he pleaded with all other BN component parties to stop making negative remarks and hurt each other but, instead, to “strengthen the spirit of solidarity and assist each other so that BN could regain the lost ground in the coming state election”.
